Halloween is coming and that means it’s time to choose a costume for the celebration. By the way, the tradition of wearing costumes has become popular not so long ago.

Dressing up Halloween costumes was first recorded in Scotland in the late 19th century. It became popular in the USA in the last century. The first costumes were figures of ugly, skinny faces of people. Only by the beginning of 2000, the costumes have increasingly become more vivid and Halloween itself has become a show.

And now let’s find out which Halloween costume suits you and what you should wear this year.

To start with, this holiday is celebrated for fun. We can call it «pagan» as it came to European culture from the Celts. It honoured dead ancestors. According to the legends, Halloween is a time of year when the veil between the worlds is at its most thinnest, thus allowing the land of the living and the realm of the dead to intermix, and spirits may pass through. The Celts dressed up in scary clothes to confuse the spirits into thinking there were not mortals around. Candles would be placed in pumpkins which would have scary faces on to scare the spirits away. Nowadays, this holiday is just an amusement like «ryazhenye» and «kolyadki» in Russia.
