Christmas movies for different ages

There are fewer things more pleasant than curling up on the sofa with hot chocolate, watching Christmas movies and learning English. Christmas movies provide us with a holiday mood, create a magic atmosphere and inspire us to dream.

To spice up your English classes you should definitely watch some good movies with your students and discuss them. Here we present the list of the most popular and amazing Christmas movies (released years) for different ages to use in your classes. Pick the one that suits best to your students’ level, age and interest.

Kids

The Christmas Chronicles 1 (2018)

Every year the Pierce family celebrates Christmas in a special and magical way. Dough — Kate’s and Teddy’s father, always decorates the Christmas tree with amazing ornaments and coloured lights. Unfortunately, one day he dies while rescuing people from the fire. Nothing makes his children happy until one day they get a chance to meet the real Santa and to help him save Christmas. This journey with Santa Claus makes Teddy believe in miracles. Eventually, he starts to get on really well with his sister. Their mother is so happy to see them reunited and joyous at Christmas.

The Christmas Chronicles 2 (2020)

The second part of the film has already been released. That’s as marvellous as the first part. Claire Pierce — Kate’s and Teddy’s mother, starts to date with a man whose partner has passed away too. The latter has a little son. They decide to celebrate Christmas together in a hot country near the sea. However, Kate doesn’t seem to be happy. And she wishes to see her late father and to disappear from that place. Soon her stepbrother Jack and she end up in the North Pole. They find out that one of the elves wants to cancel Christmas and make up their mind to help Santa Claus and Mrs Claus to save it. Facing lots of obstacles, eventually, they do manage to save Christmas. This experience makes Kate think over her problems again and to understand what matters most for her family.

Teenagers

The Knight Before Christmas (2019)

Brooke is a clever and kind science teacher. Since she hasn’t had any success in a romantic relationship, she doesn’t believe in it. However, everything changes when she comes across Cole, a knight who has travelled from the 14th century. An old crone has sent him to the 21st century to fulfil his destiny of being a true knight. Brooke accidentally hits Cole with her car and thinks that he is suffering from amnesia as he tells her that he is a knight. She wants to help Cole to regain his memory that’s why she takes him to her house. Finally, she ends up falling in love with a real knight.

The Princess Switch 2: Switched again (2020)

If your students have already watched the first part of the film, and you have discussed it with them, Stacy DeNovo is a talented young baker and is married to Crown Prince Edward of Belgravia. Lady Margaret Delacourt, Duchess of Montenaro has broken up with Kevin and now is looking forward to her coronation. When friends come to Margaret’s palace together with Kevin and his daughter, Stacy makes up her mind to help Margaret to spend more time with Kevin and save their love. That’s why they switch again. However, there is also Fiona, who looks exactly like Stacy and Margaret and she switches as well.

A Christmas Prince: The Royal baby

This is the third part of the films A Christmas Prince and A Christmas Prince: The Royal Wedding. It once again follows Queen Amber and King Richard as they prepare to welcome their first child. However, when a priceless royal artifact is stolen from inside the palace, the couple must race against the clock to solve the mystery in order to save their family and kingdom. In the end they manage to handle the problem and Amber successfully gives birth to a healthy baby girl, whom the couple name Princess Elleri after Amber’s late mother.

Adults

The Holiday Calendar (2018)

Abby Reilly gets an Advent calendar from her grandfather. At first, she thinks it is a boring calendar, but she decides to take it home anyway. The Calendar opens up on December 1. Once what is inside makes what happens with the real-life item and Abby believes that the calendar is magical. One day, Abby opens a day that reveals a candy cane. When Abby visits her friend Josh, she tells him that the calendar is magical. At last, Josh believes that it is magical.

Holidate (2020)

Holidate is a 2020 American romantic comedy holiday film, starring Emma Roberts, Luke Bracey. Sloane is a young woman living in Chicago who hates the holidays because on these days she is always criticized for not having a partner. Her mother is trying to find her a new boyfriend, which gets on Sloane’s nerves. Meanwhile, in Evanston, Illinois, Jackson is a young Australian golfer stuck who spends the holidays with his girlfriend and her family. However, he doesn’t have any serious intentions about their relationship. And later they break up because his girlfriend gets frustrated finding out he doesn’t have any Christmas gift for her.

One day, after Christmas is over, Sloane and Jackson have a chance encounter when both are returning presents they received. And here they get an idea to become a holidate, which means they do not have any responsibilities towards each other and are just going to have some fun together on holidays. And of course, they end up falling in love with each other.

Operation Christmas Drop (2020)

The film is based on real facts. Erica is a congressional assistant in Washington, DC. The congresswoman asks her to investigate the US Air Force base in Guam. She is aimed at closing this Air Force. Andrew is an Air Force captain, and he is the one who must show Erica around the USAF base and convince her not to write a report about them because it will lead to its closure.

It turns out that every year the base airlifts some presents to the citizens of Guam for Christmas. Andrew shows Erica around the base and various islands and demonstrates that the tradition is worthwhile and the base should not be closed. Though in the beginning, Erica is resolute to write a report about this base, the events that she witnesses on this island change her attitude. In the end, she has an amazing Christmas helping the US Air Force to distribute Christmas presents.
