Task 1.

Watch the extract (time 1:25-2:12) and fill in the gaps:

Dr. Strange: I keep a watch list of individuals and beings from other reals that may be a threat to this world. And your adoptive brother Lokki is one of those beings. Why bring him here?

Thor: We’re looking for my father.

Prince Albert George (his family calls him “Bertie”, he’s the future king George VI of the UK) is very nervous before his coronation the next day. He and his therapist Lionel Logue are in the hall of coronations, preparing for the ceremony. Albert has been working with Lionel for several months before to treat his disability. The future King is very nervous.

Task 1.

Watch, read and say what does the King blame Lionel for? (Key: Bertie is a stammerer, he hoped to be heeled from it absolutely but didn’t. He thinks Lionel didn’t help him and wasted his time)

Lionel: Lock me in a tower

King: I’d work if I could.

Lionel: On what charge?

King: Lord! With war looming you’ve saddled this nation with a voiceless king. You’ve destroyed the happiness of my family all for the sake of ensnaring a star patient you couldn’t possibly hope to assist. It’ll be like Mad King George the third, will be Mad King George the stammerer who let his people down so badly in the hour of need. What are you doing? Get up! You can’t sit there! Get up!

Lionel: Why not? It’s a chair.

King: That is not a chair. That is daddy’s st.Edward’s chair! 

Lionel: People have signed their names there.

King: Chair is the seat on which every king or the queen

Lionel: That is a large rock.

King: That is the Stone of Scone and you are trivialising everything.

Lionel: I don’t care how many rules I ‘d say just a chair.

King: Listen to me!

Lionel: Listen to you but by what right?

King: My divine right if you must! I’m your king!

Lionel: No, you’re not! You told me so yourself that you didn’t want it. Why should I waste my time by listening to you?

King: Because I have a right. 

Lionel: To me…

King: I have a voice! 

Lionel: Yes, you do. You have such perseverance, Bertie. You’re the bravest man I know. You’ll make a bloody good king.
