Task 1. Warm-up

Цель: повторить слова по теме «Appearance». 

Покажите ученикам фотографию семьи, где изображены люди разного возраста и внешности, и попросите описать каждого. 

Look at the picture and describe it. 

For example: This is a photo of a family. Grandma has short white hair and brown eyes. She is short and a little plump.

Task 2. Lead-in 

Цель: подвести к теме урока и предоставить контекст для следующих задач. 

Покажите ученикам фотографию девочки и скажите, что это бабушка с первой картинки в детстве. Попросите описать её внешность. 

Look at the picture. This is the grandma (with her brother) from the first picture when she was a child. Describe her appearance.

Затем спросите: 

• Has she got long ginger hair now?

Дождитесь ответа и добавьте: 

• She had long ginger hair when she was a child. She used to have long ginger hair.

Task 3. In the past 

Цель: попрактиковать used to. 

Покажите учащимся разные фотографии и попросите соотнести их с предложениями ниже. 

Look at the pictures and read the sentences. Match them with the correct pictures.

1. Mark used to wear glasses. 
2. Mr Sponge used to plant vegetables. 
3. Mr Smith used to be a teacher. 
4. Julie used to play music. 
5. Aunt Ann used to work in a hospital. 
6. John used to ride a bike every day. 

Потом задайте вопрос:

• Is it now or in the past?

Task 4. Grammar 

Цель: обратить внимание учеников на грамматическую форму.

Покажите детям предложения с used to и попросите почитать. 

Read the sentences below.

• I used to eat lots of candies. (I don’t eat them now.) 
• They used to play football after school. (They don’t play football now.)
• He used to have a beard. (He hasn’t got a beard now.)
• My grandpa used to be an actor. (He isn’t an actor now.)

Убедитесь, что им понятно использование used to, и попросите заполнить пробелы в предложениях ниже.

Task 5. What is wrong?

Цель: отработать used to.

Покажите предложения и скажите, что в некоторых из них есть ошибка. Ученикам нужно сначала исправить предложения, а потом поменять их так, чтобы они стали правдивы для них.

Read the sentences. Find and correct the mistakes if any.  

1. I used to collect stamps; now I collect magnets.
2. I used like chocolate cake, but I don’t like it now.
3. I used to celebrated birthdays with my parents; now I invite my friends too.
4. I used to having one parrot; now I have got two.
5. I used to walk to school, but now I ride a bike. 
6. I used lived in the countryside; now I live in a big city. 

Change the sentences to make them true for you.

Task 6. Old or new

Цель: дать ученикам больше практики с used to.

Покажите картинки, по которым ученикам нужно сказать, какие отличия были у тех или иных вещей в прошлом. Можно сказать о нескольких отличиях по каждому изображению. 

Look at the pictures and say how things were different in the past using «used to». 

For example: Computers used to be bigger.

• People used to live in caves. 
• People used to hunt. 
• People used to draw on cave walls. 
• People used to wear animal skins. 
• People used to write letters to each other. 
• People used to use a feather as a pen. 

Task 7. My family

Цель: персонализировать тему.

Покажите фото вашей семьи. Расскажите немного о себе и членах семьи с used to. Попросите учеников сделать то же самое. 

What’s in the picture?

When I was four I used to be shy. My dad used to have long hair and a moustache. Now he has short hair. My mum used to read me bedtime stories. We used to live in a small flat; now we live in a big house.

What about you and your family? Think about what you used to do or have in the past but don’t do or have any more. Make sentences about you and your family with «used to».
