Идея warm-up 1. Погода

Weather small talk идеальны для начала урока, так как ученики могут быть из разных городов и стран. Разговоры о погоде объединяют. Давайте пожалуемся друг другу или обсудим разницу между регионами.

Задайте вопросы: 

• Does this weather affect your mood?
• Does it cause any health issues? 
• Are you productive? 
• What helps you get through a day like this? 

Покажите скриншот с реальным прогнозом погоды какого-нибудь другого города/страны и спросите, какая сейчас погода, в каком городе/стране ученики хотели бы быть.

Другой вариант weather small talk: сделайте несколько скриншотов с прогнозом погоды на русском языке и попросите перевести фразы, например, ожидаются осадки; порывы ветра до 17 м/с; осторожно, гололед и другие.

Студентам высоких уровней интересно читать медиа на английском. Покажите заголовки статей о природных катастрофах, катаклизмах или необычных погодных условиях и обсудите — попросите выразить своё впечатление и мнение об этом.

Зная интересы ученика, можно персонализировать warm-up и подбирать новости соответственно.

Попросите студента рассказать, с чем у него ассоциируется зима. Например:

What associations do you have when you hear the word winter? (Snowflakes, frost, snowdrifts, icicles, traffic collapse, etc.)

• Snowflakes — small, delicate crystals of ice that fall from the sky as snow. 
• Frostbite — an injury caused by freezing of the skin and underlying tissues, usually affecting fingers, toes, ears, and nose. 
• Hibernation — a state of inactivity and metabolic depression in animals during winter, allowing them to conserve energy. 
• Sledding — the activity of riding on a sled or toboggan down a snowy slope.  
• Icicle — a hanging piece of ice formed by the freezing of dripping water. 
• Snowman — a figure made of packed snow, typically shaped like a human.

Подберите идиомы или пословицы, обсудите их значение. Используйте наглядные материалы: фото, картинки, которые помогут ученикам определить значение.

1. Cold hands, warm heart. Meaning: a person who appears cold or unapproachable may actually be kind and gentle.
2. Break the ice. Meaning: to initiate conversation in a social setting; to overcome initial awkwardness or tension.
3. Out in the cold. Meaning: to be neglected or excluded from a situation or group.
4. Snowed under. Meaning: overwhelmed with tasks or responsibilities; having too much to handle.
5. Snowball effect. Meaning: a situation that starts small but grows in significance and becomes bigger or more uncontrollable.

Подберите красивые фото зимних лесных и городских пейзажей или праздников, а также иллюстрации с зимними видами спорта, фестивалями. Попросите описать картинки, придумать сюжет, историю. Создайте список дел на зиму. Добавляйте в каждое занятие пару новых идей и просматривайте предыдущие — отмечайте, если уже выполнили.

• To watch all parts of «Home Alone». 
• To learn how to make a gingerbread house.

Используйте разные грамматические конструкции: Present Perfect (Have you already baked cookies? Have you ever watched «Home Alone»?), Past Simple (Did you go to the market yesterday? Were you at the cinema last weekend?), Conditionals (What would you do if you won a Christmas lottery?) и т. д.

• What atmosphere do you imagine? Give synonyms to the words frightful, delightful.
• What’s the weather outside? Is it cozy inside? 

После того как вы изучите всю песню, попросите ученика пересказать содержание в виде истории: It was a blizzard outdoors and it has been snowing all night, but we did not have any plans and that’s why we stayed at home by the fireplace. Попросите использовать глаголы умозаключений, додумать историю: кем являются персонажи, какая атмосфера и т. д.

Идея warm-up 9. Фильмы и постановки

Обсудите с учениками фильмы, мультфильмы, театральные постановки, которые ассоциируются с зимним временем. Каждый урок можно смотреть трейлер или показывать афишу и спрашивать, на что ученик хотел бы сходить, что ему было бы интересно. Можно поделиться своим опытом посещения подобных мероприятий. Если ученик не очень разговорчив, прочтите мини-диалоги и узнайте мнение, как бы он поступил, что бы порекомендовал, присоединился ли бы для просмотра и т. д.

Teacher: Hi, how are you? I’d like to share something with you. I’m so excited because I managed to buy a ticket to the Bolshoi Theatre for the ballet «The Nutcracker». There was only one ticket available; all the others were sold out. I’m so lucky!

Student: Oh, really? That’s great! But I’m not a fan of the theater, and last year I had a bad experience visiting our local theater. The performance was boring and very controversial. There was a crowd of people in the cloakroom, so I prefer not to visit large events.
