Warm-up
Для начала задайте ученикам несколько вопросов:
- Do you like horror stories?
- What’s the scariest film you’ve ever seen?
- What’s your favorite Halloween costume?
- Do you like Halloween? Why?
- When is it celebrated? Where do people celebrate it?
Lead-in
Включите музыку, подходящую под тему урока, с эффектом магии и перемещения во времени и пространстве. Покажите фото Шотландии, отеля-замка, и надпись на двери или знак. Спросите у учащихся, где они находятся в данный момент, что видят, попросите прочитать табличку на двери дома.
- Where are you now? What country is this?
- What can you see in front of you? (можно дать варианты: a haunted hotel, a country house, a 5-star hotel)
- What does it mean: a haunted house? (a house where there are ghosts)
Let’s read the sign on the door.
In Scotland, there is an old hotel. It is called the Glenfearn Hotel. The hotel is very old and very cold. People say a ghost lives there. The ghost is a soldier. His name is Alistair. He has bagpipes. He plays sad music at night. An old man, Mr. MacLeod, owns the hotel. He has a special offer for people. «Stay one night in the hotel. Pay only 1 dollar. See the ghost!» Many people come to the hotel. They want to see the ghost. But they are also afraid.
Are you ready to spend the night in this hotel? Let’s answer some questions:

Oh no! The door of the old, spooky house has shut behind you! The only way out is to solve all the Halloween mysteries inside. Complete 5 tasks, find 5 secret words, and solve the final riddle to escape! Are you brave enough?
So, we need to choose our way, choose a correct sentence without a mistake to get into the next room.
- Go straight on and turn right.
- Go past on and turn in.
- Turn to the left and on.
- Go straight and turn in the second aisle.
Task 1: Spooky Tongue Twisters

Task 2: Nothing scares me
Можно дать такие повествования ученикам, чтобы они читали и понимали, где находятся, задавать вопросы на понимание прочитанного.
The corridor is full of strange masks and clothes! To get the next clue, you must describe what you see.

She is dressed as a witch. She has got a black dress, a hat. She is old and her hair is gray.

Are you scared of any of them?

- I am not scared of the witch but I am afraid of a vampire.

Why do people dress up for Halloween?
In the past, people used to believe that ghosts walked the streets during Halloween night and felt scared about bumping into them. People began to wear masks and dress up in costumes to fool the ghosts into thinking they were other spirits. The traditional colors of Halloween are black and orange. Orange comes from the fall harvest and black represents death.
Why did people wear costumes? What are traditional colors of Halloween? What do they represent?

Task 3: The Decorations
Проходим в следующую комнату, показываем картинку, желательно, чтобы на ней было много праздничной атрибутики и мы смогли потренировать предлоги: on, in, under, above, behind, in front of, on the left/right, between. Если нет таких фотографий, попросите учащихся нарисовать, например, пять мышей под креслом, два паука на стене.
The room is full of Halloween decorations! Can you name them all?
Show a picture of a decorated room with:
- a spider,
- a cockroach,
- a spider web,
- a bat,
- a skeleton,
- a candle,
- a pumpkin.
What can you see in the room? Where are spiders? Where is a rat? Are there any candles?

You are almost there! To find the last word, make a story about Halloween.
