Speaking Activities: 10 упражнений для уроков под Новый Год

Чтобы ваши ученики почувствовали праздничное настроение на уроках английского языка и прокачали разговорный навык, мы подготовили 10 упражнений для занятий под Новый Год. Они подойдут подросткам (15–17 лет) и взрослым с уровнем Pre-Intermediate и выше.

Задание 1. Is this true?

Дайте ученикам несколько минут, чтобы прочитать предсказания про возможное будущее новогодних праздников. После этого задайте вопросы:  

1. There won’t be any real Christmas trees available, so we’ll have to use plastic ones.
2. Most people in the world will have an American Christmas dinner.
3. Only half of the children in my country will be aware that Christmas is a religious celebration.
4. Some people will spend the New Year on Mars or on the Moon.
5. Some people will celebrate Christmas Day in a space hotel.
6. The expected average price for New Year presents for kids in my country is set to reach $5,000.
7. There won’t be any snow anywhere in the world during the New Year.
8. We won’t be allowed to use Christmas lights for ecological reasons.
9. Christmas will be completely replaced by another holiday.
10. Most families in my country will celebrate Christmas with a barbecue instead of a traditional dinner.

Задание 2. The Dark Side of Christmas

Покажите учащимся цифры и попросите подумать, что они могут означать. Дайте подсказку: цифры связаны с Рождеством и имеют негативные значения.

Задание 3. Campaigns

Одним из самых популярных рождественских роликов на ТВ в своё время была реклама бренда Coca Cola. Сейчас же их стало огромное количество, и брендам требуется очень много ресурсов, чтобы выделяться на фоне остальных. Если ученики интересуются темой рекламы, моды, обязательно поделитесь с ними новогодними рекламными кампаниями разных брендов и обсудите их.

Сначала попросите поностальгировать и вспомнить новогодние рекламы разных брендов, спросите, что им нравится в них, а что нет — и почему. Затем по очереди включите новогодние ролики. Только на этом этапе не показывайте учащимся названия брендов, а задайте вопросы: 

• Befree
• Ekonika     
• Idol
• Studio29
• Love Republic
• Aurezzi (название ролика — «Tis the Season»)

• What product does the video advertise? 
• What emotions does it appeal to? 
• What message does this ad convey? 
• Do you recognize any of these brands?

На четвёртом вопросе покажите названия брендов. 

• Which of these campaigns do you like more? Why? 
• Who do you think the target audience is in each ad? How do you think they target their audience? 

Задание 4. Making Descriptions

Покажите список слов, которые ученикам предстоит угадывать и описывать. Убедитесь, что они знакомы с каждым из них.

Teacher: Advent calendar. 

Например, вы работаете со выражением — gingerbread man. 

Student: It is brown.
Teacher: It usually has red candy buttons. 
Student: It has a cute, smiling face made of frosting.
Teacher: It often has a bowtie.
Student: It is typically shaped like a human figure.
Teacher: It may have candy cane arms or legs made of sweets.
Student: Some stories and movies feature it as a character.
Teacher: It is made primarily from ginger, molasses, and flour.

Вместе со словами подготовьте описания, но не показывайте их ученикам. Только после того, как закончите задание, покажите и сравните все ваши ответы с тем, что было составлено изначально.

Some recipes include nuts or spices like nutmeg and cinnamon.
It has a rich, dense texture.  

Student: It is a traditional dessert in many cultures around Christmas.
Teacher: It sometimes has a coin in it.

Teacher: It can have a rich, dark color. 

Задание 5. Past and Future

Подготовьте темы для обсуждения прошлого, настоящего и будущего. Задача ученика — подумать о случившихся переменах и дать краткую сводку. Например: «The amount of snow used to be significantly higher, but it has gradually been decreasing over the years. I believe it will level off to almost nothing in the future».

Предложите студентам определить причины, последствия и возможные решения, а затем составить на базе этого предложения.

Задание 6. Christmas Problem Solving

Подготовьте как можно возможных забавных проблем, связанных с новогодними праздниками, и попросите учащихся подумать и предложить подходящие для них решения. Также дайте фразы, которые им нужно использовать для составления высказываний. 

1. All the needles have fallen off my Christmas tree.
2. I accidentally used salt instead of sugar in the cookies.

Задание 7. Someone Who

Подумайте о событии, связанном с новогодними праздниками, которое происходит в вашем городе/стране и поделитесь им с учениками. Например: «In my country Christmas decorations are put up very early». Узнайте мнение учащихся по этому поводу, попросите рассказать, есть ли такое в их городе/стране.

Затем предложите ещё больше таких фактов и попросите студентов подумать о людях, которых они знают, или о персонажах из фильмов/мультфильмов/книг, для кого эти высказывания являются/могут являться правдой.   

Для примера: 

Student: The Grinch hates Christmas songs.

Find someone who: 

1. Thinks that Christmas (or New Year) is becoming too commercialised.
2. Hates Christmas / New Year songs.
3. Prefers another holiday to Christmas.
4. Usually buys themselves a Christmas / New Year present.
5. Really believes in some Christmas or New Year superstitions.
6. Thinks that Christmas songs start too early.
7. Believes that Christmas is just for children.
8. Has bought a Christmas present for a pet.
9. Sent a letter to Santa.
10. Didn’t like their presents last year.

Задание 8. Christmas Going

Подготовьте список действий, которые можно совершить в новогодние праздники. Ученики должны выбрать одно. Не озвучивая, что выбрали из списка, они по одному называют действия, которые необходимо в этом случае выполнить.

Например, ученики выбрали «to dress up as Santa». Они говорят: «I am going to buy a costume», «I am going to learn how to say „Ho-ho-ho“». Учитель угадывает.

Задание 9. One Question to Choose

Подготовьте вопросы по новогодним праздникам и попросите учеников выбрать один. Дайте 5 минут, чтобы вспомнить слова, связанные с темой вопроса. Задача учащихся — развёрнуто ответить, используя как можно больше слов, которые они знают по теме. 

1. If Christmas were celebrated in the summer, how would it look? What traditions would change? 
2. If you could spend Christmas anywhere in the world, where would it be and why? 
3. What would you ask Santa for if he could give you abilities or qualities instead of material things? 
4. If you could change one Christmas tradition, what would it be and why? 
5. If you could invite any historical figure to your Christmas celebration, who would it be and what would you want to discuss with them? 
6. If animals could celebrate Christmas, how do you think they would do it? What festivities would they have? 
7. If you could design a Christmas tree that reflects your personality, what unique decorations and themes would you include? 
8. If you had the power to give everyone in the world one gift for Christmas, what would it be and why? 
9. If you could experience Christmas through the eyes of a character from a book or movie, who would you choose and what would the experience be like? 
10. If you could bring back a long-lost Christmas tradition from the past, which one would you choose and how would it enhance the holiday? 
11. If technology advanced to the point where we could celebrate Christmas in space, what would that celebration look like and what activities would take place?

Задание 10. English Resolutions

Узнайте у студентов, составляют ли они список «New Year’s Resolutions». Затем попросите их посмотреть на новогодние обещания по изучению английского. Дайте несколько минут, чтобы почитать и подумать, какие из этих пунктов они забирают себе в новый год.

После этого ученикам нужно назвать наречия частотности, а учителю — подумать, к каким предложениям они относятся. По желанию учитель тоже может поделиться своими намерениями, которые касаются английского (сдать экзамен, пройти повышение квалификации, прочитать 50 книг на английском и т. д.). Обычно учеников это очень мотивирует.
