Мы подготовили разговорные задания, по которым ученики смогут обсудить тренды в современном воспитании и выучить новые слова и фразы по теме. Упражнения подойдут взрослым с уровнем Upper Intermediate и выше. 

Задание 1. Типы семей

Покажите ученикам фотографии разных типов семей, попросите назвать их и объяснить разницу. 

Look at the pictures and name family structures. 

  • What’s the difference between them? 
  • What other types of families do you know in the modern world?
Key:
  • A nuclear family: a single-parent family; a blended family; an extended family; DINK (dual income, no kids); a grandparent family.
  • A nuclear family: a couple and their dependent children, regarded as a basic social unit.
  • A single-parent family: a family in which the children live with one parent rather than two.
  • A blended family: a family consisting of a couple, the children they have had together, and their children from previous relationships.
  • An extended family: a family which extends beyond the nuclear family to include grandparents and other relatives.
  • DINK (dual income, no kids): a cohabiting or married couple who both work full-time jobs and choose not to have children.
  • A grandparent family: a family in which children are raised by their grandparents.
Possible answers: a guest marriage; an immediate family; a stepfamily; a childless family; an equal-rights union
  1. Which of these types of families are common in your country nowadays?
  2. How do you think parenting is different in different types of families? 
  3. What qualities do you think are the most important in parenting, regardless of family structure?
  4. How has parenting changed over time? Do you think it’s become more challenging? 
  5. What are some advantages and disadvantages of 21st century parenting?
  6. Can you think of some positive effects of technology on parenting? 
  7. Do you think parenting will continue to change in the future? Why or why not?

Read the situations and make parental decisions. Explain to your teacher why they are the best for these situations.

  1. Your 10-year-old daughter has developed a strong attachment to her tablet and spends hours playing games, often neglecting her homework and outdoor play.
  2. Your 15-year-old son has become increasingly withdrawn and is spending most of his time alone in his room, showing little interest in family activities or friendships.
  3. Your 13-year-old daughter has started hanging out with a new group of friends who engage in risky behaviors, and you’re concerned about the influence they may have on her.
  4. Your 16-year-old son has expressed a desire to drop out of high school to pursue a career in music, despite not having any formal training or a clear plan for success.
  5. You’ve noticed that your 8-year-old son has become very anxious about social situations, often refusing to participate in group activities or playdates with friends. He seems to prefer staying at home alone.
  6. Your 14-year-old daughter has started to show signs of rebellion by frequently changing her hairstyle and clothing style, which seems too extreme for her age and might attract negative attention from peers.
  7. Your 12-year-old son has been caught lying about his homework and spending time on social media instead of studying, leading to declining grades and frustration at home.
  8. Your 9-year-old daughter has begun expressing fears about being away from home, refusing to sleep alone or attend sleepovers with friends, which is affecting her social life and independence.

  5. You’ve discovered that your 13-year-old son has been organizing study groups with his classmates to help each other with difficult subjects, demonstrating leadership and collaboration skills.

  2. What are some of the most common parenting approaches in your country now? Why have they become so popular?
  3. What difficulties do modern parents usually encounter? What factors contribute to these challenges?
  4. What types of parenting styles will become more common? Why do you think that will happen?
