План урока английского языка по песне “Arcade”
Песни — отличным материалом для изучения лексики, практики аудирования и произношения, а иногда даже и знакомства с новой грамматической темой.
Мы подготовили план урока на основе песни “Arcade”. Он подойдет для занятия со взрослыми учениками уровня Pre-Intermediate. Ваши студенты познакомятся с новыми словами, послушают песню, посмотрят клип к ней и обсудят впечатления. Также они проанализируют использованные в тексте времена, поработают над ударением в словах и узнают историю, которая скрывается за песней.

Task 1. Warm-up
Начните урок с обсуждения следующих вопросов:
Do you like listening to music? When and where do you usually listen to music?
Покажите ученикам несколько музыкальных инструментов крупным планом и спросите:
- What musical instruments do you see?
- What music do you usually listen to?
- How does music make you feel?
1. guitar, drum, saxophone, violin, piano, DJ equipment.
Task 2: Lead-in
- Can you name some really popular songs nowadays? Where did you first hear them? (on TV, on radio, on social media, etc.)
- How do some songs become popular and the others go unnoticed?
- Are there any old songs that you first heard from the reels made on social media?
Подчеркните, что сейчас в соцсетях часто используются песни и что они становятся вирусным благодаря коротким видео.
Включите несколько секунд инструментальную версию песни “Arcade“. Спросите:
- Are you familiar with this melody? What song is it?
Если ученики затрудняются ответить, включите припев песни (не показывайте пока клип).
- Have you seen short videos/reels with it on social media platforms? What videos are they?
- Do you know who the singer is?
- Do you know the words and what the song is about?

Task 3. General theme
Покажите студентам название песни и имя исполнителя. Спросите:
What came to your mind when you saw the title of the song?
Включите песню (без клипа), попросите послушать и сказать:
Have you seen its music video? What is the general theme of the song?
Если ученики не видели клип, покажите им несколько скринов и дайте несколько минут на размышления. Примите любой ответ и подчеркните, что они смогут проверить свой ответ выполняя упражнения.
Task 4. Filling
Дайте студентам текст песни с несколькими пропусками и попросите угадать пропущенные слова. Затем включите песню, чтобы ученики могли проверить свои ответы. Выберите слова для пропуска, исходя из уровня учащихся.
Read the text of the song and guess the missing words. Listen to the song to check your answers.

Task 5. Vocabulary
Выберите слова, которые ученики скорее всего не знают, и покажите их значения. Задача студентов найти эти слова в тексте.
Read the definitions and find the appropriate words:
- to transport something or someone from one place to another, usually with your hands or arms;
- a video game characterized by a short but intense gameplay;
- doing something as a habit without being able to stop;
- a line on the surface of something that is damaged;
- the state of complete quiet without any sounds;
- a happy or positive attitude that fails to notice negative things, leading to a view of life that is not realistic;
- to remove the skin of fruit and vegetables;
- to continue doing something;
- elevated railway in an amusement park.

Task 6. Grammar
Дайте несколько минут ученикам, чтобы прочитать слова песни, выписать использованные временные формы, определить их, функцию и значение.
Затем спросите: Why do you think the songwriter used each of these tenses?
Разберите каждое время с учениками. Вы также можете попросить им подумать как бы звучала песня, если использовались другие времена. Дайте им некоторое время на размышление. Если есть время они могут попробовать поменять времена на другие и спеть по новой версии.
Так вы покажите учащимся, что песни не всегда подчиняются грамматическим правилам. Они должны знать о грамматической гибкости в текстах песен.

Task 7. Stress
Включите песню с субтитрами еще раз. Задача учеников — послушать и выделить слова, на которых падает ударение, и объяснить, почему именно эти слова подчеркнуты.
Listen to the song again. Highlight the stressed words and explain why these words are stressed.
После выполнения задания студенты могут спеть песню, но присоединятся к певцу только тогда, когда произносятся слова, где стоит ударение. Чтобы выполнить это задание, нужно очень внимательно слушать.
Task 8. The real meaning
Чтобы копнуть немного глубже и узнать, что скрывается за песней, обсудите следующие вопросы с учениками:
- What can you say about the colours, effects, things that were used in the music clip?
- What associations were caused by the song?
- What did the singer want to say? What is the idea of the song?
- Have you listened to Duncan Laurence’s other songs? What does he usually sing about?
Затем включите видео с певцом, где он рассказывает историю скрывающийся за песней.
Сначала ученики читают утверждения, затем смотрят видео и выбирают False, True или Not mentioned.
- “Arcade” is Duncan’s first song.
- Duncan won the Eurovision which was held in the Netherlands.
- The singer’s parents went to the Eurovision.
- People didn’t like the song at first.
- When he was in high school, he got bullied because of his songs.
1. Not mentioned;
2. False (It was held in Tel Aviv, Israel);
3. True;
4. False (The singer says that people were thankful for the song);
5. False (He was bullied in high school and the only thing that helped him was music).
Task 9. Discussion
- How important is music in your life?
- Imagine that there is no music in the world, how do you feel?
- How much time do you spend listening to music each day or week?
- Is there a song that makes you emotional?
- What emotions do you feel when different instruments are being played?
