Negative Inversions  Not only….but also  Nowhere… Never have	Not only does he play football but he also plays tennis.  Nowhere on Earth can such a magnificent place be found.
Time expressions: hardly, barely, scarcely, no sooner не успели, как едва ли, редко	Hardly had the train left the station, when there was an explosion.  Scarcely had I entered the room when the phone rang.  No sooner had I reached the door than I realized it was locked.
After only: Only later  Only when только когда  Only after только потом Only then только тогда	Only then did I understand why the tragedy had happened. Only later did she find out the truth.
Other expressions: under no circumstances ни при каких обстоятельствах on no account ни в коем случае at no time никогда in no way отнюдь, ни за что on no condition ни в коем случае not until пока я не not only … (but also)	On no account should you do anything without asking me first. On no condition will the company bear responsibility for lost property.  Under no circumstances can costs be covered.  Only by working extremely hard could we buy a house. In no way should we accept their offer. In no way am I related to the suspect. At no time during the operation did the patient regain consciousness.  No way am I going to sing this song!
Neither/nor/so: ….. nor….  ….. Neither  So….that… так…что	I don’t read books nor do I watch TV.  I don’t like ice-cream. Neither do I.  So intense was the heat that the firefighters couldn’t cope with the fire.
Conditional sentences:  1st type — should Если вдруг (случись) 2nd type — were (Не) будь 3rd type — had (Не)сделав, не потеряв…	Should you require any further information, please contact us.  Were the negotiations to fall through, it would bring about unforeseen problems. Had I known about her behavior earlier, I would have fired her

Инверсия — сложная грамматическая конструкция. Для того чтобы вывести ее в речь, необходимо много практики, шаблонов, примеров, чтобы запомнить типичные обороты, почувствовать эмоциональный окрас. Для этого практикуйте в упражнениях сами конструкции, переводите, перефразируйте, а потом переходите к речевой практике.

Упражнение 1. Choice

Перед тем как перейти к практике в предложениях и контексте, отработайте устойчивые фразы, после которых следует инверсия.

А. Choose a correct preposition to complete the negative adverbials that may trigger inversion. 

• On/under no condition
• Under/on no circumstances
• In/on no account
• Of/at no time
• To/in no way
• Not/so until
• Not/so only … but also / else
  

В. Choose the correct options to complete the sentences.

• At/of no time will I see this psychological thriller again. 
• At/on no condition should you forget to congratulate your mom with her anniversary.
• Not only / So did you fail to come, but you also did not call me to warn.

For/on no account should you take money from him!

Упражнение 2. Correct order

Предложите студенту самому построить предложения, соблюдая порядок слов инверсии. Обращайте внимание на эмоциональный окрас предложения при прямом и обратном порядке слов.

Упражнение 3. Paraphrase

Предложите ученику обычные стандартные предложения перефразировать, используя инверсию, чтобы они получились более эмоциональными.

Paraphrase these sentences following the rules of inversion.

1. I have never believed what he told us about. 
2. She seldom speaks about her ex-husband.
3. These students not only learn the theory, but they also have a lot of practice.

Упражнение 4. Tick

Предложите ученикам ряд предложений, в которых необходимо определить, есть ли инверсия. Таким образом они сравнят и увидят разницу в структуре.

Translate from Russian into English.

1. Она ни разу не упомянула своих родственников в разговоре.
2. Ни при каких обстоятельствах родители не должны узнать правду об этом.
3. Я никогда и представить не могла, что это может случиться со мной.
4. Только потом они поняли сколько усилий ему стоила эта победа.
5. Будь ты смелее, добился бы успеха.

Упражнение 6. Correct form

Дополните предложения, используя глаголы в скобках в правильной форме. При необходимости изменяйте глагол или другие слова.

Complete each sentence using the verbs in brackets. Change the verb forms and add any other words if necessary.

Situation 1

You arrived in a hotel and are not satisfied with your room. 

Try to convince a receptionist to change it for the better. Speak emotionally proving that you have not expected such services. Say what you were promised and what room you wanted.

• Только после прибытия сообщили, что все комнаты заняты
