Many teachers like self-reflection lists, where they sum up their results and put on new goals. They use them on a continuous basis. This time of the year many teachers reflect on the results of an academic year. It’s a great idea to create “End of the year” templates for your students as well. You can present them journals, designed by yourself or take some ideas from the internet. We have made two types (using Canva) as examples for you. You can download them free — for teens and children.

And here you’ll find top-5 tips on how to make your personal self-reflection list.

#1. Find an inspiration source

I love using Pinterest for my inspiration. There are so many beautiful and creative templates that you can use as an idea for your personal journal. For example, here is a beautiful one for K-12 students or for teens.

#2. Make a plan

You should think about the plan of your journal or self-reflection questions. I made a small plan for K-12 students’ templates.

1) About me

My name is ___

I am ___ years old.

This year I went to ___ grade.

2) Education

My favorite subject is ____

This year I have read ____

My favorite book is ____

3) Lunch time

I love eating ____ (colour favorite food)

My favorite lunch is ____

  1. Friends
  2. My favorite teacher
  3. My best memory of the year (draw)
  4. Travelling («I want to visit» list)
  5. This summer I am going to ____

For teenagers and adults it would be better to make a reflection questions list. Here are 10 questions to help your students reflect on the school year. Take a few of your favorites to use for a survey or as writing/journal prompts.

  1. What is something that we learned this year that surprised you most of all?
  2. What is something you accomplished this year that you are proud of?
  3. Where is your favorite place at school? Why?
  4. What was the nicest thing someone in our class did for you this year?
  5. What was the most challenging thing for you this year?
  6. What did you do this year to help your friends or classmates?
  7. If you could change one thing during this year, what would it be?
  8. What is your favorite subject this year? Why? What results did you have?
  9. What is something you taught your teacher or classmates this year?
  10. What is something the teacher could have done to make this year better?

#3. Make it useful

Think, what is interesting to your students. If you don’t want to focus on a school year reflection, try to separate questions in different life fields:

  • Challenges and wins
  • Resources
  • Inner Self
  • Wellness
  • Boundaries
  • Routine
  • Priorities
  • Work
  • Environment
  • Emotions
  • Thoughts
  • Connections
  • Fun and Hobbies
  • Gratitude
  • Goals and Growth

Here you can find an excellent example for inspiration.
