Упражнение 1. A funny questionnaire “The Queen of Beauty”
Цель: создать речевую ситуацию для описания внешности, а также предложить ученику подискутировать о том, как должна выглядеть идеально-красивая девушка («Королева красоты»).
Выбирая ответа на вопросы от первого до четвертого, студент придет к тому, что его ответам соответствует одна определенная актриса.
1. Answer the questions and read the name of your queen of beauty.
2. Describe her appearance and say if you agree or disagree.
Example,
- Is she tall or short? Tall.
- Is she slim or plump? Slim.
- What hair style has she got? Curly.
- What hair colour has she got? Dark.
So, my beauty queen is Julia Roberts. She is tall and slim with long curly brown hair, big eyes, a big smiling mouth and full lips. I agree, she is very beautiful.

Describe the appearance of these actors in two films. Explain how their appearance has changed and why.
- Kate Winslet in film “Titanic” and in film “Revolutionary road”.
- Bruce Willis in “Die Hard” and in “White Elephant”.
- America Ferrera in “Ugly Betty” and “Barbie”.
- Anne Hathaway in “Princess Diaries” (in the beginning and at the end of the film) and “Les Misérables”.
- Hugh Jackman in “The Wolverine” and “Les Misérables”.
Anne Hathaway as a teen princess in “Princess Diaries” has got shoulder-length curly dark hair and big ugly glasses. Her hair looks a little messy. She doesn’t look pretty in the beginning of the film.
As Fantine in “Les Miserables” she looks exhausted and devastated. She is skinny and sick, her hair is very short and clumpy and her skin looks very unhealthy.
She looks different because her characters are absolutely different: a young teenager and a devastated and suffering young woman.

Упражнение 3. Sports people
Цель: закрепить умение описывать внешность человека, а также инициировать дискуссию о внешности спортсменов. Предложим студенту порассуждать, влияет ли внешность на спортивные результаты, если да, то как.
Task: Describe these famous sports people and explain how their appearance helps them to win.
1. Usain Bolt (athlete, runner, 1.95 m tall).
2. Serena Williams (tennis player) (hint: Serena has a very muscular body)
3. Tatyana Volosozhar and Maxim Trankov (figure skating couples) (hint: Tatiana is very short and slim and Maxim is very tall and strong, height and weight are important for this kind of sport)
4. Alexandr Bolshunov (skier, 1.85 m tall) (hint: Alexander is very tall and has a very wide chest and muscular body)

Упражнение 4. Fashion changes
Цель: уметь говорить на тему «Идеалы красоты в разные века».
Предложим ученику подумать и высказаться, как изменялись представления о человеческой красоте в разные века.
Look at these masterpieces:
1. Leonardo Da Vinci “Mona Lisa”
2. Titian “Danae”
When these paintings were being painted, the women in them were considered to be the idols of beauty. Describe the women in the paintings and explain how beauty idols have changed since then.
Mona Lisa has got shoulder-length brown hair, high forehead, eye-lashes which are not accented with make-up, a long thin nose and thin lips.
Danae is rather overweight, she doesn’t look fit and slim, her arms and legs are rather plump.
A plum body, a high forehead, thin lips and eyes with little eye-lashed were considered to be the signs of beauty several centuries ago. Nowadays people have absolutely different pion of view. A lot of women wear fringes to cover their high foreheads, make lips full and wear make-up. A beautiful body is considered to be slim, fit and even muscular.
Упражнение 5. Describe a person who
Цель: закрепить умение описывать внешность близких людей.
Предложите ученикам описать человека из списка:
- you admire,
- you find the scariest,
- you find the most courageous,
- you find the clumsiest,
- you find the most handsome.
I find Mr. Bin the clumsiest because he drops everything and fells everywhere. He looks really strange with his straight black hair, big eyes and a big nose. Besides, he’s quite skinny and stupid.
Упражнение 6. “-ish words”
Цель: научиться объяснять значение слов и значение суффикса «-ish».
Explain the meanings of the words below and make your sentences with these phrases: Explain the meaning of the “-ish” suffix.
Guess the person and describe him or her.
- Your mother’s husband.
- A person who you meet in the lift every morning.
- Your dad’s son.
- Your friend’s cousin.
My dad is a tall baldish man. His greenish eyes always smile and are full of kindness.

Упражнение 7. A crime report
Цель: научиться детально описывать внешность.
Предложим ученику составить «фоторобот» воображаемого преступника, указав максимальное количество деталей.
Imagine there was a crime somewhere and you know the suspect. Complete the police poster in details:
WANTED:
- height
- shape of the head and face
- complexion
- skin (freckles / wrinkles/ etc.)
- nose shape (hooked / thin / snub / etc.)
- mouth / lips shape
- jaw / chin shape
- eyes (almond-shaped, slanted, etc.)
- eyebrows
- neck
- shoulders and chest
- etc.
This is a tallish and plump man with a round face, a beard and a moustache. He has got a small snub nose and big full lips. etc.
Веселые и необычные задания помогут ученику запомнить слова и научиться высказывать свое мнение. Также задания, в которых ученики описывают актеров и близких им людей, помогут повысить общую мотивацию к учебе.
